Summary

A ploughed over hollow way was noted during field investigation in 2017. It is likely to have given access to the main areas of summer grazing in the former Royal Forest, and may date from the early medieval period.

Full Description

SS 69109 39240. A ploughed over hollow way on the north side of Wallover Down was noted during field survey in 2017. It is visible as a reed filled hollow, 6 metres wide and 1 metre deep, and runs southwest to northeast for some 230 metres from Wallover Down to Goat Combe, towards Shoulsbarrow Common. It is the remains of a routeway from the farms to the west giving access to the main areas of summer grazing in the former Royal Forest (MEM22088), and may date to the early medieval period. [1]
