Abstract/Summary
A walkover survey of land on Ham Allotment, NW of Wheddon Cross, Exmoor, was carried out in February 2023 in order to inform any proposed mire restoration work to be carried out by the South West Peatland Partnership. The survey area contains an extensive prehistoric field system with associated settlement sites; a deserted medieval settlement with a contemporary field system which includes well preserved strip lynchets, and two post medieval farmsteads. The documentary record for the area shows that the deserted medieval settlement was called Acham, it formed part of a holding known as Langham and Acham in the late 17th century.
