MDE21363 - Post-medieval boundary stone north of Trentishoe Road (Monument)

Summary

A post-medieval stone marks the boundary between Trentishoe and Combe Martin parishes and manors. It measures 1.12 metres high, 0.64 metres wide and 0.18 metres thick, and is inscribed 'TM' and '1840'.

Full Description

Boundary stone approximately 60 metres north of Trentishoe Road at SS 627 478 Boundary stone. Post-Medieval with inscribed date 1840. Slate. 1.12 metres high, 0.64 metres wide and 0.18 thick. Inscribed on east face with the letters TM and date 1840. The stone leans against the boundary bank to the west and marks the boundary between the parishes and manors of Combe Martin and Trentishoe. The stone is one of the better preserved in a group of similar boundary markers sited along the parish boundary. [1] One of a group of boundary stones on the parish boundary between Combe Martin and Trentishoe. [2-4] The building was visited in September 2012 as part of the rapid condition survey of Exmoor's Listed Buildings 2012-13. It received a BAR score of 5A. [5] This stone was visible on the 1843 Combe Martin Tithe map. [6] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [7]
