Summary

A small circular mound visible on aerial photographs overlooking an unnamed stream is likely to be the remains of a prehistoric cairn. Several similar monuments are visible within the vicinity, and are believed to date to the Bronze Age.

Full Description

A small circular mound visible on aerial photographs on Thornworthy Common, Lynton and Lynmouth is likely to be the remains of a prehistoric cairn. Centred at SS 7172 4423, the mound measures approximately 6 metres in diameter. It is situated in a prominent position, overlooking an unnamed stream. Several similar monuments are visible within the vicinity, and are believed to date to the Bronze Age. [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
