Abstract/Summary

The Exmoors Mires Project planned to undertake peatland restoration on Deer Park and Spooners. Access with heavy machinery to these areas near Wintershead could damage the underlying archaeology. Following field survey and geophysical surveys a high potential for buried archaeology was detected and an evaluation excavation was undertaken which is detailed in this report. The excavations confirmed the presence of a prehistoric site of intermittant human activity of up to 4,500 years, although the limits of the site is still not clear.
