Abstract/Summary

A watching brief was undertaken in January and March 2021 during groundworks for a new electricity cable trench at Countisbury Common. The proposed route crossed a number of heritage assets recorded in the Exmoor National Park HER. The route was changed following a precommencement walkover survey to avoid the majority of the identified archaeological features. A small number of features were affected by the trench and were recorded during the watching brief, including a field boundary and two trackways (one formerly thought to represent a building platform). A settlement terrace was also identified next to the village, which was avoided by the new route. A small number of late post-medieval and modern finds were collected.
