Full Description

Only one building shown on 1962 map, with several small enclosures. [1] Area of a deserted farm. Well preserved earthworks of formerly more extensive buildings around this surviving farm. [2] [2] describes Horsecombe as `the area of a deserted farm'. Horsecombe is still in use as a farm. It is called Newham in 1809 whilst at the same date the name `Horsecombe' is applied to Pinn (MSO11674). The confusion caused by these name changes means that this record should be looked at together with MSO11674 and MSO12590. [3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4] The site is labelled Horsecombe on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, at which time it consisted of a single central building. [5] The site is labelled 1197 on the Tithe Map for Cutcombe. The Apportionment labels the house "Horsecombe". The house is shown with a larger plan form at this time, and with two small outbuildings.
