Full Description

Stone bank with intermittent extension in a stone free area. Generally 2 metres wide, 0.3 metres high, and 100 metres long. Where sectioned by a shell hole the bank appears to lie below a thin covering of peaty soil and is probably a prehistoric field boundary. [1] A number of banks on East and West Pinford were noted in 1981. SS 79574250. Fragments of a low stone bank, orientated NW/SE and stretching for approximately 100 metres were recorded on the northwestern corner of West Pinford. Where sectioned by a shell hole the bank appears to liebelow a thin covering of peaty soil and is probably a prehistoric field boundary. [2] Part of a field system (MSO11001). [3] An area of rubble banks on the northern end of West Pinford. Centred at SS 7957 4251, it lies close to a cairn (MSO11023). It consists of a turf covered stony bank 79 metres long, 2.6 metres wide and 0.3 metres high, and is slightly sinuous in its course. Towards its northern end the bank is disturbed by several hollows and a path which have exposed the stony fabric of the bank. Surveyed at 1:10,000 scale on record sheet. [5] See also MSO12238, which appears to be a confusion with this site.
