Full Description

A possible medieval or early post medieval quarry or extractive pit is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork south west of Woodavent Farm, Nettlecombe. Centred at approximately , the roughly oval quarry is aligned north-south and measures 75 metres long by up to 45 metres wide. It is depicted on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1888 as a tree clump, suggesting it was abandoned some time prior to this date. There is no indication as to what material was extracted here, but given the proximity of a possible limestone quarry and a lime kiln (see MMO3656), it may well have also supplied limestone.
