Summary

The signpost is situated within a traffic island at a crossroads. A missing finger was recovered by volunteers for the Exmoor Historic Signpost Project and repaired by Exmoor Welding .

Full Description

A guide post is marked on modern MasterMap data. [1] The signpost was visited in October 2015 and its condition assessed. It has SCC (Somerset County Council) repeated on the four sides of a pyramid finial. The attached fingers read: EXFORD 4 SIMONSBATH 9 B3224 MINEHEAD 10 TAUNTON 24 B3224 DRAPERS WAY STEART WHEDDON CROSS 3/4 DUNSTER 7 3/4 B3224 [missing] The collar reads BLAGDON CROSS. [2] The lowest broken finger of the signpost was located in a bus shelter in Brushford by volunteers for the Exmoor Historic Signpost Project. It was welded back together by Exmoor Welding of Wheddon Cross. The finger reads: DUNKERY BEACON 1 1/2 LUCCOMBE 5. [3] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in February 2024. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [4]
