Description

Archaeological monitoring undertaken between March and June 2019 at St Petrock's Church, Timberscombe during the installation of new drainage and facilities. A deposit was noted that included charcoal, a number of associated slots and a possible post hole, possibly representing the remains of timber structures; charcoal from the latest feature was dated to the mid 8th Century. These were cut by a number of possibly medieval burials. Elsewhere to the east revealed several burials, mostly dating to the 18th or 19th Centuries. Blocking in the south door was also removed, and noted to be of mid 20th Century date; the later 15th Century reveals were also found to be intact and in good condition.
