Full Description

Smarmoor barn to the northwest of King's Brompton Farm is derelict and has banks making a small yard or enclosure. [1,2] Named "Smarmoor barn" on Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division 6 inch map. [3] The 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map shows that Smarmoor Barn used to be a much larger building. [4,5] Smarmoor barn to the northwest of King's Brompton Farm is a stone barn, now repaired in concrete block, with a collapsed corrugated iron roof. The barn opens onto a former yard to the north and east. Smarmoor Barn is presumably a field barn, many of which were constructed at the time of enclosure. [6] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [7]
