Full Description

SS 8060 4264. A low, round, flat-topped mound with stones showing in it was recorded on the western spur of Swap Hill in 1981. It is 5.0 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high, and is possibly a clearance cairn. Northwestern sides fairly steep. [1] A cairn at SS 8060 4263, is situated on the crest of the southwestern side of a short spur which projects to the northwest and the confluence of two steams. It is 40 metres northeast of a stone setting (MSO6873) and consists of a turf covered mound with diameters of 4.8 metres north to south and 4.2 metres east to west. The top 0.5 metres high is rounded and irregularly dug into. Probing indicates a high content of stones, but there is no evidence of any agricultural activity and it seems unlikely to be a clearance mound. [4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
