Full Description

SS 7036 4585. Lush marked ditch, or vegetation mark, suggesting a circular enclosure with entrance on the south side, seen by McDonnell on aerial photographs on Barham Hill. [1,2] SS 7034 4585. This area located on the gentle western slopes below the summit of Barham Hill is now improved pasture. The area has been deep ploughed and there is no trace of any "ditch or vegitation mark" or of an enclosure. [3] Following examination of all available aerial photographs for this area as part of the Exmoor National Park National Mapping Programme survey, it is the opinion of this authority that the feature recorded here is of non-archaeological origin. Specifically, the impression of an enclosure was probably caused by a combination of variations in surface topography and vegetation or fungus rings. [4,5] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [6]
