MMO3024 - Possible post-medieval field boundary west of Chibbet Ford (Monument)

A field-boundary of probable post-medieval date was noted as a fragmentary earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s. It is possible, however, that this represents the route of several historic trackways.

A field boundary of probable post-medieval date can be seen as a fragmentary earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s, to the west of Chibbet Ford, Exford parish at circa SS 8350 3760. The boundary bank is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, but appears to be cut by the line of a footpath which is. It therefore seems likely that the boundary had passed out of use by 1889. [1,2] It is possible that this "boundary feature" may in fact be the earthwork remains of several trackways noted on the Exford Tithe Map and 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map (see MSO12346). Further study is required to confirm this.
