MMO1867 - Medieval or post-medieval lynchet or boundary bank west of Thornworthy (Monument)

A lynchet or boundary bank is visible on aerial photographs of the 1950s onwards as a levelled earthwork. It is associated with other field boundaries in the area that have been interpreted as being of possible medieval or post-medieval date.

A lynchet or boundary bank is visible on aerial photographs of the 1950s onwards as a levelled earthwork, Lynton and Lynmouth parish. The lynchet is centred on SS 7085 4566 and formed a field boundary on the crest of the combe above the Barbrook, approximately 150 metres to the southwest of Thornworthy. The curved earthwork roughly follows the contour of the combe side, but is also associated with other sinuous field boundaries in the environs of Thornworthy which have been interpreted as having possible medieval or post-medieval origins, and may be of a similar date.
