MMO1857 - Possible Bronze Age hut circle on Countisbury Common (Monument)

A circular banked feature is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs may be the remains of a prehistoric hut circle, possibly dating to the Bronze Age. A similar feature is visible approximately 40 metres to the south east (see MMO1858).

A circular banked feature is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Countisbury Common and may be the remains of a prehistoric hut circle. Centred at SS 7487 5008, close to the summit of Butter Hill, the feature measures approximately 4.5 metres across, with the interior measuring 3 metres across. It is similar to other Bronze Age hut circles recorded in SS 64 NW (see MDE8961 for an example), but approximately half the size. A second possible hut circle is visible approximately 40 metres to the south-east (see MMO1858). Further study will be required to assess these features.
