Full Description

A possible medieval or post-medieval field boundary is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs on the southwest end of Bonhill Top, creating an approximately square enclosure. Centred at approximately SS 6874 4867, the bank appears to connect with the extant boundaries at SS 6867 4872 and SS 6869 4862. The approximately square enclosure created by this bank measures 107 metres wide by 67 metres wide, with the bank itself measuring approximately 1 metre wide. The enclosure is aligned roughly east to west, and may have been part of the original field system in this area, removed to create a larger pasture on Bonhill Top. The enclosure is not depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map suggesting that it was abandoned prior to publication in 1889. On later photographs the boundary has been destroyed by the construction of a modern dwelling and garden.
