Full Description

A relict curvilinear field boundary east of Silcombe, Oare, is visible as an earthwork in LiDAR (1) and as a slight crop mark in recent aerial photographs (2020). It is depicted by the 1st and 2nd ed OS maps (2, 3), but interestingly not by the circa 1840 Tithe (4). The boundary is in an area of anciently enclosed land and the sinous and irregular boundaries do not suggest a late nineteenth century date; it may be that the boundaries within this area were not maintained at the time of the Tithe and have earlier origins. This record was created by Cornwall HER as part of the Forestry Commission Project K (5).
