MEM25345 - Lower Holwell, Parracombe (Building)

Somewhat separate from the village is Holwell, which has a long two storey elevation and is 18th Century or possibly earlier. Built of stone rubble, whitewashed with a Cornish slate roof and three axial stone stacks, it has three light casement windows. To the right is a lower wing probably added in the 19th Century with a gabled dormer breaking the eaves line. [1] The building is labelled "Lower Holwell" on the 2022 MasterMap data. [2] The 25 inch 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps depict the building with a similar plan form. It is labelled "Holwell". [3,4] The building is also shown on the Tithe Map for Parracombe. [5] Lower Holwell is mentioned in the 2019 Conservation Area Appraisal for Parracombe. [6] The heritage asset was assessed for inclusion on the Exmoor Local Heritage List in November 2022. It was decided to add the asset to the Local Heritage List. [7]
