MEM22633 - Possible prehistoric stone on The Chains (Monument)

A large quartz veined rock was visible during field investigation in 2012. This may be associated with the platform MEM22635 and is possibly prehistoric in date.

Full Description

A large sub rounded rock was noted during a non intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on The Chains, undertaken by South West Archaeology as part of the Exmoor Mires Project. This has obvious quartz veins and appears to tumble down the back of platform MEM22635. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on The Chains, which included this site. Noted was a large quartz veined rock which may be associated with the platform MEM22635 and is possibly prehistoric in date. [2]
