MEM22215 - Japonica Cottage, Parson's Street, Porlock (Building)
Please read the caveat document.
Type and Period (1)
Also noteworthy is Japonica Cottage a typical late 17th-early 18th Century thatched cottage, with “eyebrow” dormers, painted stone rubble and shouldered front lateral stack. [1,2] An evaluation trench excavated in the garden of the cottage in 2012 provided evidence for cultivation layers presumably associated with the building and dating to the later post-medieval period. This structure appears to be present on the 1841 Porlock Tithe map.
