Description

The report consists of historical background, a rapid visual survey of the cottages and a photographic record. A building survey was undertaken in advance of the demolition of cottages at higher Thorne, Exford. The building appears to have been constructed in the 19th century, probably as a farm building such as a bank barn or stable. The first floor appears to have been used for hand threshing while the ground floor was divided into a stable and tack room. The building was converted into cottages in the early 20th century, possibly for estate or farm workers.
