Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring was conducted on works to repair and consolidate the driveway at Dunster Castle between October 2001 and February 2002. The castle's driveway had shown evidence of subsidence and the site's owners had initiated a programme of works to solve what had been an ongoing problem for the past 30 years. The works consisted of trenching and piling followed by concreting and road repairs. The site was visited at regular intervals by AC archaeology during the period of works. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were recorded during these visits. The nature of the work limited the potential for archaeological monitoring due to the fact that it produced no visible exposure of the underlying deposits.
