Full Description

The remains of a post-medieval building on the north side of Broad Lane has been noted on aerial photographs. [1,2] At SS 93436 33760 is a small barn, constructed with timber and corrugated iron. The earthwork remains of an enclosure 20 by 15 metres are discernible in the rank vegetation. The building and enclosure are not marked on the Exton Tithe Map of 1838 [3] or the Ordnance Survey 25 inch 1st Edition map of 1889 [4]. The building and enclosure are depicted on the current large scale mapping of the area, suggesting that they are of 20th Century origin [5]. [6] The features are also not shown on the 2nd Edition mapping. [7] The 2010 aerial photograph shows that the small barn mentioned above appears to be ruinous. [9] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [10]
