MSO6868 - Bronze Age barrow or cairn at the Meads (Monument)

Summary

A Bronze Age burial cairn is visible as a turf covered stony mound 8.6 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high. It has a robbing hollow on its eastern side.

Full Description

SS 830 430 approx. A circular cairn on the south side of the Meads was recorded in 1981. It is 9.0 metres in diameter and 1.0 metres high with evidence of a robber hole on the top. [1] Centred at SS 8305 4307 is a prehistoric barrow. It comprises a well defined, turf covered stony mound, 8.6 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high. A subrectangular hollow, 2.4 metres across, has been driven into the barrow from the eastern (lower) side. [3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
