MSO12713 - Cold War military communications mast at Bratton Ball (Monument)

The earthwork and concrete remains of the mast for a Cold War radar station's VHF control.

Full Description

A small hollow and some concrete rubble lies close to the hedge in enclosed land on Bratton Ball at SS 9450 4731. According to the farmer this was part of a Cold War military installation in use on North Hill between 1953 and 1964. See also MSO12638 for the main compound and MSO12714 for mast bases. [1] This grid reference is that given as that of the receiver mast for the VHF control for the Rotor radar station at West Myne (MSO7673). [2]
