Full Description

A mill, leat and pond are believed to be post medieval in date. The landowner has demolished a further clay built structure believed to be medieval due to the recovery of medieval pottery. [1] Can be seen on 1904 25 inch Ordnance Survey map. [2] The building(s) thought to the mill could not be postively identified on the 1904 25 inch map [2]. The leat and pond also could not be identified. There is a pond (one of two which still remain today), annotated with "sluice" on the map, to the west of Shircombe. A linear ditch, possibly a post-medieval leat (not on the Ordnance Survey mapping), is visible on vertical aerial photographs. [3,4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5,6]
