MMO3373 - Possible Roman military camp east of Hinam Farm (Monument)

Evidence for a possible rectilinear banked enclosure defined on two or three sides by low earthwork banks, possibly the remains of a military camp of Roman date, can be seen on aerial photographs as earthworks.

Evidence for a possible banked enclosure can be seen on aerial photographs as earthworks on a relatively gentle slope 230 metres to the east of Hinam Farm at circa SS 8882 2921. The possible enclosure is suggested by low earthworks banks defining the northeast and northwest sides of a rectilinear enclosure. The northwest side appears to roughly 60 metres in length. However, the northeastern side appears incomplete, the visible section measuring by 35 metres. The date and function of the enclosure are unknown, but could possibly be the remains of a military camp of Roman date.
