A small circular depression is visible on aerial photographs east of Sherdon Water, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7857 3433, the pit is visible as a pair of oval depressions, measuring 14 and 16 metres across. They are not depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting they were abandoned some time prior to publication in 1891. They most likely date to the post medieval period, although they may also be medieval in origin. There is no indication as to what was extracted here, although building stone would be the most likely option.
