MMO3037 - Post-medieval field boundary northwest of Withypool (Monument)

A removed field boundary of probable post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs. The earthwork is curved in plan, and with other boundaries in the vicinity, probably fossilises the boundaries of strip fields of medieval origin.

A removed field boundary of probable post-medieval date is visible as a low earthwork on aerial photographs, centred at circa SS 84263602 to the north-west of Withypool. The curved earthwork is over 100 metres long in total but is very diffuse; in places it has been spread by as much as 15 metres by the plough. The earthwork can be seen to cross the contours of the hillslope and with other similar boundaries in the vicinity of Withypool, probably fossilises the boundaries of strip fields of medieval origin.
