Full Description

A large post-medieval quarry and associated spoil heap are visible on aerial photographs as earthworks east of Honeymead Farm, Exmoor. Centred at approximately SS 7996 3937, the quarry consists of a shallow pit measuring 30 metres across, and flanked on the north and south edges by two low mounds, presumably spoil heaps. The quarry is depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890, and annotated "old quarry" suggesting it was abandoned shortly before the map was published. It is possible that this quarry supplied building stone to Honeymead Farm and surrounding buildings.
