Full Description

A relict field boundary of probable post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork bank on the northwest facing slopes of Lyncombe Hill, centred on circa SS 8662 3698. The boundary bank is visible for approximately 150 metres, subdividing the field in which it is locate into two roughly equal halves. It is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map and therefore probably represents an episode of enclosure that failed or was abandoned prior to 1890. It remains visible on aerial photographs of 1985. [1-4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5]
