MMO2859 - Post-medieval field boundary on Lyncombe Hill (Monument)

A relict field boundary of probable post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork bank on the northwest facing slopes of Lyncombe Hill, centred on circa SS 8662 3698. The boundary bank is visible for approximately 150 metres, subdividing the field in which it is locate into two roughly equal halves. It is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map and therefore probably represents an episode of enclosure that failed or was abandoned prior to 1890. It remains visible on aerial photographs of 1985.
