Full Description

A pit, probably the remains of quarry of post-medieval date, is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork centred on circa SS 8631 3925, roughly equidistant between Prescott and Stone Lane. The pit abuts the line of a former field boundary on its western side, but extends in an irregularly north-easterly direction for approximately 40 metres from the former boundary on its eastern edge. It measures up to circa 20 metres wide. The pit and field boundary it abuts are marked on the on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1890 but the pit is not annotated. By the publication of the second edition map in 1903 the pit is marked as Old Quarry and may therefore have passed out of use by this time.
