Full Description

A probable post-medieval field boundary is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark in a field to the southeast of Briddicott Farm, Carhampton. Centred at ST 0052 4170, the cropmark is visible as a strip of retarded growth indicating the presence of a bank or other boundary. The cropmark runs north to south for approximately 100 metres, before turning 90 degrees at its northern end and running east to west for 30 metres, where is meets the extant boundary. A second east to west branch is visible running parallel to this, measuring 50 metres in length. There is no boundary shown at this location on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1888, suggesting it was abandoned prior to this date. The marks are very faint and narrow, possibly indicating that these were temporary boundaries, removed to create a larger field.
