Full Description

The remains of a simple post-medieval water meadow of a type known locally as a catchwork or catch meadow system can be seen as an earthwork on aerial photographs, to the west of Slocombeslade, Brendon village centred on circa SS 7743 4703. The water meadow is composed on a single water channel, known as a headmain or gutter, running along a lynchet on an east facing valley side at roughly 290 metres above Ordnance Datum. It is marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1889 but has been partly removed by 1952. [1-3] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [4]
