MMO1710 - Post-medieval field boundaries south of Slocombeslade (Monument)

The remains of field boundaries of probable 19th Century date can be seen on aerial photographs as linear earthworks some 750 metres to the south of the modern Farm called Slocombeslade, Brendon parish, centred on circa SS 7759 4624. The earthwork banks abut extant field boundaries and, although apparently incomplete, define a trapezoidal field of roughly 0.7 hectares. This may be evidence of failed enclosure associated with the former farm or settlement marked as Slocombeslade on the first Edition Ordnance Survey map, some 350 metres to the north (MDE11930). The field boundaries remain visible on aerial photographs of 1995. [1-4] The boundaries are not visible on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, nor on the Brendon Tithe Map.
