MMO1700 - Post-medieval field boundary on Badgworthy Lees (Monument)

A relict field boundary of probable post-medieval date is visible on aerial photographs as a linear earthwork on Bagdworthy Lees, Brendon parish, centred on circa SS 7828 4502. The earthwork defines a large D shaped enclosure approximately 12 hectares in area. An additional section of earthwork circa 150 metres long can be seen heading northwards towards Lank Combe from the northeastern corner of the enclosure. The boundary is not marked on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1891 but it abuts a very regular boundary of probable 19th Century date which is. It is therefore probably an abandoned element of the same phase of enclosure, which covers an extensive area on the western side of Badgeworthy Water.
