MMO1640 - Post-medieval ditch northeast of Guskin Combe (Monument)

A possible post medieval ditch or gully is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork, in a field to the northeast of Guskin Combe. The ditch, which is centred at SS 8116 4868, runs across a west facing slope for approximately 220 metres in a north to south direction, and appears to run into Guskin Combe itself. It is similar is size and form to the gutters in a water meadow system on the opposite slope (see MMO1636) and as such it may be part of a disused water meadow system, known locally as a catchwater meadow. [1,2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3]
