Full Description

A possible building platform and potentially associated disused quarry of probable post-medieval date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, located to the southeast of Chisland Drive in Luccombe parish at circa SS 9133 4515. The semicircular quarry measures circa 45 by 30 metres and abuts a field boundary to the northeast. The possible building platform is visible to the northwest of the quarry and also follows the field boundary, for approximately 35 metres, narrowing from roughly 16 to 10 metres. The quarry is marked on the 1st Edition 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map but not the current 1:2500 base map and appears to have been infilled by 1979. On 1946 photography the possible platform abuts a field boundary, since removed, on its northwestern edge. The platform may have accommodated structures associated with the extractive industry within the quarry.
