Full Description
A roughly circular mound is located northwest of Daws Farm according to LiDAR. There is a central raised mound and an outer depression encircling it, suggesting that it may be a bowl barrow. The central mound is approximately 13m in diameter according to digital survey, while the encircling ditch is approximately 28m in diameter. [1] There is a second feature visible on LiDAR, consisting of a central depression and encircling ditch, c. 20m in diameter. The second feature is aligned with the first, and may be part of a now largely destroyed linear cemetery aligned on a north-south vertical axis. It is located c. 65m to the south of the better preserved northerly barrow. Aerial photographs show the northerly mound is present in 1946 and clearly visible in 2013 and 2020. [2, 3, 4] The nearest firmly known barrow is MMO1032, located east of Hone Cottage to the north, along the Exe valley. More research is needed on the distribution and presence of prehistoric sites in this area of the NP.
