Full Description
An area of ridge and furrow can be seen as earthworks on LiDAR imagery spread across three adjoining field parcels to the west of South Greenslade Farm. [1] Long parallel soil ridges are present across the field parcels when viewed via LiDAR. The ridges run north to south across the field parcels, interrupted by the post-medieval field boundaries. The ridges appear to measure between c. 5 and 10m in width, suggesting that they are a form of broad ridge and furrow which may be indicative of an earlier, medieval date and associated with the use of a heavy plough. They may be associated with the medieval field system recorded just to the south, as MEM25659, with varying features surviving in the neighbouring parcels indicative of different phases of medieval agriculture. The field boundaries that overlie the ridge and furrow are already visible on the tithe map, suggesting a date of inclosure prior to its production in 1841. [2]
