MEM25184 - Post-medieval farmstead west of Ditch Farm (Monument)

Centred at SS 9870 3140 some 100 m west of Ditch Farm are the earthworks of a deserted farmstead. Although smoothed they are still substantial and comprise at least two building platforms around a dished area some 9 metres across, presumably a former yard. The building platforms and yard lie within an area defined by a hedged lane (now disused) on the south and east and by an earthwork boundary on the north and west. The hedged lane formerly continued as far as Higher Ditch (see MMO672). Found during field reconnaissance and surveyed at 1:2500 scale. [1] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [2] The earthworks remain clearly visible in LiDAR imagery, appearing to represent a leveled platform, c. 40m by 40m, with a bank running along its northern edge, with a second leveled platform, c.10m by 10m, adjacent to this.
