Full Description

The name Dogsworthy may derive from a personal name and mean Dogga's settlement. Doggeworth in 1281. [1] A farmstead is shown on the Countisbury Tithe Map. It is recorded as part of Windgate, owned and occupied by the Reverend Walter Halliday, with 179 named "Dogsworthy Weslls [sic] Cottage and Yard", 180 "Garden" and 178 "Linhay" in the Apportionment Book. [2] Dogsworthy is shown and labelled on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey 1st Edition map. [3] Dogsworthy Cottage is shown on the 2020 MasterMap data with associated outbuildings. [4]
