Full Description

Limingclose is shown on the Tithe Map for Exton as an L shaped building at SS 9405 3382 with an outbuilding at c. SS 9407 3382. It is within land parcel 680, which is described by the associated Apportionment as "House etc", owned by Robert Guy Evered Esquire and occupied by Thomas How. [1] The site is shown on the 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey maps with some alterations to the main house and a reorganisation of outbuildings. [2,3] The outbuildings seem to have been further demolished and reorganised since the 2nd Edition map was surveyed. The main farmhouse, however, appears to have been little altered since this time. [4] Family history research has found that Thomas How[e] was married to Elizabeth Orchard (born 1817), illegitimate daughter of Jane Orchard, who lived at Goosemoor Farm with her husband James Vicary in the early 19th century. Thomas and Elizabeth were married in 1844, but the marriage was shortlived as Thomas was kicked in the head by a horse and died in 1851. Nonetheless, the pair had at least two sons. [5] The farm leasehold was advertised in early 2026, with accompanying images depicting the outbuildings in more details. The farmhouse retains its L-shaped form, and the outbuildings are described as being a linhay with three open bays, L-shaped cowshed/hayloft, combination barn and a cart shed and lean-to. These appear 19th century in date, stone built with slate roofing and appear in good condition. [6]
