MEM23541 - Desolate Farmstead (Building)
Please read the caveat document.
Type and Period (1)
The farmstead was not extant when the Countisbury Tithe Map was surveyed. The buildings first appear on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map, where they are labelled "Desolate". They appear to comprise of a farmhouse (possibly with associated farm buildings attached) within a group of small enclosures, a pond to the south and a small building to the east of the pond, which has an Ordnance Survey bench mark labelled on its eastern elevation. The farmstead is similarly depicted on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map, and the features shown mostly still appear to be extant. [3,4]
