MEM23118 - Hollacombe Farm (Building)

The Tithe Map for Kentisbury depicts Hollacombe as three buildings; the farmhouse at SS 6459 4375 and two associated structures, one directly north of at SS 6458 4377 and an L shaped building to the northwest at SS 6457 4378. These are still extant, with some small additions being made to the building north of the farmhouse before the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map was constructed and two additional structures also being raised by this point, at SS 6462 4383 and SS 6456 4382, the latter of which was demolished after the 2nd Edition map was surveyed. The farmstead has since been extended to the west with larger scale modern agricultural buildings. [1-4] The farmstead was visited in December 2014. The house appeared to date from the 19th Century and was noted to be partly slate hung. The L shaped building was described as a big 19th Century rubble barn with slate roofs, backing onto a separate yard downhill from the house. The yard was open on the downward side to a valley view and a small field barn was noted to be separate below. The buildings north of the farmhouse were described as old rubble piggeries, possibly early 19th Century in date and with a tin roof. [5]
