MDE8247 - Medieval or post-medieval routeways on Molland Common (Monument)

A subcircular trackway, probably a recent equestrian course, was recorded on an aerial photograph of 1976. It appears to be masking a fragmentary system of hollow ways and tracks used for access to Molland Common.

Low banks or a regular trackway forming part of a large subcircular course. Possibly a horse training course or exercise track. Visible on aerial photographs dating to 1977 on Cussacombe Common. [1,2] SS 799 299. Fragmentary remains of hollow ways and tracks survive in this area; they were used for access to Molland Common. The area of the National Grid Reference provided has been disturbed by recent vehicle ruts, and by an ?equestrian course, which is clearly visible on recent aerial photographs. [3,4] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [5,6]
