Type and Period (3)
Building at shaft d probably originally housed a pumping and winding engine. Shown as a ruin on os (1903) map, but since refurbished and roofed with corrugated iron. Measures 16' by 15' with lean-to 11' by 6'. The lean-to accessed from interior via a half-height doorway. Original purpose and extent of its modification is not evident, although the use of brick clearly belongs to a subsequent period. Probably associated with machinery found nearby (subsheet 11) (dixon). Vis=2/12/1994 (griffith + bowman) as above (griffith). Vis=brick built boiler house from workings of 1918 + 1942 (claughton, 1993).
