Full Description
Land parcel 48 on the Parracombe Tithe Map is described in the Apportionment as "Castle Close", in arable use and including seven acres. [1] SS 68304350. The field at the National Grid Reference cited does not contain any earthworks, neither was there any field evidence in the surrounding fields. [2] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [3] LiDAR assessment in 2026 suggested a possible faint outline of a square enclosure within this parcel, but this is relatively speculative. The ephemeral enclosure is likely to significanly predate the Tithe Map, with a suggested date to the medieval period with improbable but nonetheless possible earlier origins. [4]
